The league leaders were on course for only their second reverse of the season when Mats Hummels put through his own net (26), but two quick-fire goals turned the match on its head, Robert Lewandowski (75) and a Mensur Mujdža own goal (78) sealing Dortmund's eleventh win in 12 matches to keep them seven points clear.
Mainz also rallied with a 3-2 win at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach to move second, ahead of Bayer 04 Leverkusen's evening encounter with FC Bayern München. Despite twice falling behind to Marco Reus (53, 69) strikes, André Schürrle (64) and a Sami Allagui double (76, 88) ended Die Nullfünfer's run of three consecutive league reverses.
It was a day to forget for Eintracht Frankfurt as they suffered a 4-0 home defeat to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who leapfrogged them into fifth place with goals by Boris Vukcevic (31), Vedad Ibiševic (69, 70) and Peniel Mlapa (90+1). FC Schalke 04 also enjoyed a 4-0 triumph at the expense of fellow UEFA Champions League hopefuls Werder Bremen, Raúl González scoring a hat-trick.
Elsewhere, Hannover 96 earned a 3-2 win over Hamburger SV, Mike Hanke grabbing the last-gasp winner, while 1. FC Kaiserslautern had Croatian internationals Stiven Rivic, Ivo Ilicevic and Srdjan Lakic to thank for a 3-1 win at 1. FC Nürnberg.
